Equity Development and Innovation (EDI)

What is the Vocational Education and Training (VET) Equity Development and Innovation Program (formerly Australians Working Together AWT)?

The Western Australian Department of Education and Training's priority is to improve access to and outcomes from training for all Western Australians. Since 2004 the Department has provided a range of funding to ensure equitable training and employment outcomes for marginalised and disengaged learners in identified target groups.

The target groups are:

  • People with disabilities;
  • Persons on income support payments including long term unemployed, sole parents and mature age job seekers;
  • People from culturally and linguistically diverse (CaLD) backgrounds, especially humanitarian entrants;
  • Regional and remote learners;
  • Youth at risk.

In the past there have been two categories of projects:

  • Pave the Way for non-accredited training
  • Building Diversity for accredited training.

Pave the Way projects occur in a community setting and contribute to the development of a person's skills and confidence which will pave the way for them to:

  • access further education, training and/or employment;
  • gain work readiness skills; and
  • become less reliant on welfare.

In 2010, funds will only be available for Pave the Way non-accredited projects. Funds will not be available for Building Diversity accredited projects.

2010 Equity Development and Innovation Grants Program

The aim of the Equity Development and Innovation (EDI) Pave the way grants program in 2010 is to support the new strategy for Adult and Community Education (ACE) in WA (2009 – 2018). The focus is on learning activities that are non-accredited and non-formal in nature, building pathways for adults of all ages into further education, training and/or employment.
