The Department provides opportunities for staff teaching literacy and numeracy to adults to maintain the currency of their qualifications and build on their skills base. These opportunities include: Sponsorship Program Sponsorship ProgramThis program assists individual adult literacy and numeracy practitioners who live and work in Western Australia to access workshops, conferences and courses that give them new professional skills and improve the service they deliver to students. Practitioners can make applications for funding to help with travel and other costs associated with attending events within the state or in other states. The program was set up to help practitioners who live and work in regional and remote areas and who could be doubly disadvantaged by both geographical and professional isolation. The program is now available to all practitioners but the selection criteria continue to be weighted in favour of those who would find it more difficult, more time-consuming and more costly to access professional development events or activities.
