Trainers' and Assessors' Network (TAN)

The Trainers' and Assessors' Network (TAN) is a locally driven network for trainers and assessors who work in vocational education and training (VET) in Western Australia. It is supported by the Department of Training and Workforce Development. Meetings take place in Perth and in a number of regional areas.

The network has four objectives:

  • Provide opportunities for the development of an informed and highly skilled group of trainers and assessors across the VET sector in Western Australia;
  • Provide an environment to share information, build relationships and maintain effective partnerships across industry and the VET sector;
  • Provide advice in consultation with the Department of Training and Workforce Development to relevant State and National bodies on issues relating to assessment and workplace training; and
  • Enhance the professional standing of trainers and assessors in VET.

The network also serves as a mechanism for dissemination of information, knowledge and skills related to the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF).

The Perth based TAN meets approximately four times a year. Times and days on which the meetings are held are varied to meet the different needs of members. There will be opportunity to hear guest speakers, to explore available resources, share and evaluate research and network with others involved in VET. If you are interested in becoming a member please download our brochure.

Research Component

The Research Network, has now been amalgamated with the TAN in order to better meet its aims, which were:

  • To bring together practitioners who have a particular interest in teaching and learning issues in vocational education and training and who have demonstrated leadership qualities and innovative practice;
  • Develop a website to inform the network of new developments in research in WA and create a repository for research papers; and
  • Improve links with networks in other states and national research bodies.

TAFEWA Professional Development Strategy Network

The TAFEWA Professional Development Strategy Network is a closed network made up of a representative, usually the professional development officer, from each of the 10 TAFEWA colleges.

The purpose of the Network is threefold:

  • to manage the Teaching, Learning and Assessment Strategy Group (TLASG) funding in the respective colleges;
  • to act as a communication channel for the Department and TLASG to inform on changing professional development needs in the "TAFEWA VET" sector; and
  • to keep all colleges informed of professional development projects and initiatives occurring in the public VET sector across the State.

Representatives of the Network usually meet in Perth four times a year with additional teleconferences if required.
